I was telling a friend this evening about my wonderful trip to Kenya, all arranged by African Safari Club in 2009. My friend was so excited by it all and asked me to see what deals they had for this year (2012). What a shock to find they had gone bankrupt. That is so very unfortunate, not just for the company, but the staff also.I will definitely return to the Shanzu area, although at a much higher price.I can't help wondering whether I will ever find such a friendly and professional staff as in the Flamingo Hotel.

I am so disappointed to hear about ASC. My husband and I went to Kenya to stay at the Dolphin/Flamingo hotel near Mombassa with them 3 years ago this May. We also got married whilst on the holiday and they did a wonderful job in laying on the Masai group of dancers, flowers from the gardens, and a wonderful photo shoot in the grounds afterwards. They even managed to get a doctor in to see my husband, who had a bad stomach upset on the day to make sure he was well enough for the ceremony. We then had two wonderful safari's and chilled by the beautiful pool in between. You have to go to Kenya to experience the feeling you get, Africa gets into your blood, it is a wonderful and magical place, for me a dream come true to visit, but without the competative prices offered by ASC - would never have happened. The only downside was the treatment of the staff, the non-payment of wages, which they did not let affect their friendliness or helpfulness during our stay.

I agree with a lot of the comments, we had an amazing holiday but it was coloured by the discomfort we felt about the staff's treatment by the management, so sad it didnt work out! :(

you know one of the things people who call afs a great company should remember is the appalling way it treat it's staff. No pay for months and dreadful working practices and conditions. Shame on anyone who condones exploitation like this to their own financial gain and self benefit.

Am sad to hear that the ASC went bankrupt. Am Kenyan born and worked in ASC hotels for two years as a security personnel in the late 90's. I always met happy tourist(some came back every year). I now live in Denmark and yesterday I talked on the phone with a friend from Germany who wants to travel to Kenya and needed my advice. The first thing I thought was ASC. And now am sitting here trying to see if I can get her book a holiday with them just to see that they went bankrupt!! Sad!
Am sorry for those who had paid for holidays and can not get their money back. I hope that they will all get their money back.
Am however happy to read all those positive remarks written here about ASC, Kenya and Africa in general.

My friend and I have had a couple of wonderful holidays with ASC. We were so surprised and upset to read of the closure of this company. We could not fault the service we received and can only hope that it may retrade in the future.
